Body positive quotes especially for people who are plus sized, large bodied or fat

All over social media, you can see the #bodypositive hashtag. Frustratingly, when you search through all the posts, the hashtag has been co-opted by small bodied cis-gendered women who tend to be white. This is so important to note because these people are the beauty standard and meet the thin ideal. Society lifts these people up and gives them privilege. This makes it even more important for us large bodied people to carve out community for ourselves and to unsure that fellow large bodied people’s voices’ are heard.

What is the Body Positivity Movement?

It was a movement started by fat black people. It was created for them specifically but evolved as a space of marginalised bodies (disabled, LGBTQIA+ etc). A movement where bodies that do not and cannot conform to societies ideals come together in community and uplift eachother.

What Body Positivity is not?

Body positivity is not about being positive about our own body. It is not about learning to love our own body. Being in marginalised bodys, it is hard to accept our body let alone learn to like or love our body. But commonly it is mistaken as an individual action. This waters down the movement and continues to water voices down that so desparately need to be heard.
